Jan. 21, 2008 On the Road
Jonathan is just back from a stint mastering records in Seoul, South Korea!!! He was invited to bring his experience and expertise to the studio community there, mastering records in several genres and holding two mastering clinics/seminars for the professional studio community. The state of the recording art is pretty high in Seoul but mastering is a much less well known quantity. Jonathan brought along SoundBlade to help generate masters, the new PSP Xenon and Izotope RX.

Nov. 29, 2007 So much news....
Recent additions to our studio arsenal include: A pair of linked Cranesong Trakkers with sidechain feeds from our vintage Troisi eqs. A Pendulum OCL2 compressor...a wonder in dynamic range control Requisite Audio L2M tube limiter. creamy, smooth AND open sounding, this device has brings another color to our palette of tools. We are auditioning the tube power supply which some claim makes the unit sound even better. Stay tuned! New Lavry D/A converters to gently/clearly shepherd audio into the analog domain for processing. We still LOVE our PMI HDCD converter for the transition from analog to digital . We have the newly released suite of audio restoration tools from Izotope called Izotope RX. We joined with a dozen or so engineers to help the company beta test the software and boy are we impressed with the results. From broadbacnd noise removal to spectral repair this software is helping us rid masters of everything but the music, and only the music.

Mar. 01, 2006 Busy becomes busier
We have continued working through oodles of concert masterial for Wolfgang's Vault, and now you can hear some of the results by going to their website and listening to the web radio broadcast. Our newest project is mastering audio from unreleased Bob Marley and the Wailers concerts lifted from a video recording....and maybe the video will follow. The other big deal is that we're nearing the completion of the concert DVD for Deborah Henson-Conant with the Grand Rapids Symphony, shot in hi-def, mixed in stereo and surround right hear in Studio A with Tom Bates and the helm, along withJonathan kibb

Dec. 07, 2005 Surround mixing meets mastering
In the midst of our retrospective we hosted producer Mike Denneen and finished a 5.1 mix by The Click 5 of a song to be included in the Disney remake of the movie, "Shaggy Dog"....look for it as the credits roll! We LOVE surround

Dec. 05, 2005 Vintage RnR continued
That's Rock n Roll....Recent mastering projects include live shows by the Boss, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Peter Frampton, George Harrison/Ravi Shankar.

Nov. 23, 2005 From the studio and the field
The 60's and 70's continue to haunt us. Recent mastering includes concerts by Bruce Springsteen, Traffic, Grouch Marx (!!), Tower of Power among others. It's remarkable to hear just how tight live performances were in those days.....and how powerful and moving. From the field, Jonathan just returned from three weeks in Michigan where he produced a video shoot for Deborah Henonson-Conant and the Grand Rapids Symphony. The shows were shot in HD, 10 cameras, directed by Bob COmiskey, audio by Tom Bates and lighting by Bob Peterson. The live switch was done using the CBC 'premiere' truck. A 20 million dollar technology wonder (ypu, ALL the stuff worked! Now on to editing, mixing and post production.

Oct. 17, 2005 Here and There
This fall has brought us projects from around the country, notably, MAtt Parmenter and his unique brand of progressive rock from Cleveland, Brett Kull of the band Echolyn, based in PA, brinigng a 'They Might Be Giants' tribute album, Erik Lindgren (Birdsongs of the Mesozoic) bringing a couple of zany discs from outer space(!) and Brian Keane, soundtrack composer and producer extraordinaire, bringing a new soundtrak disc from his digs in CT.

Oct. 01, 2005 Diversify you say?....
OK, until now you have probably known that we offer unsurpassed 2 channel and 5.1 mastering services....and maybe you know about our duplication, in house and otherwise. But did you know that we provide location recording too? We have produced numerous discs, recorded on location and finished here in our mastering rooms, musical genres ranging from classical to jazz to acoustic pop....we also do small format mixing on site.....did I hear you say you need a tuba player? M Works has MANY surprises in store.

Sep. 15, 2005
Jonathan was in the studio mastering a benefit record for artists effected by Hurricane Katrina, to be released through Rounder Records....some of the proceeds going to the MusicCares musicians assistance program administered by The Recording Academy. We're proud to help in whatever small ways we can.

Sep. 01, 2005
Our Producers series has been gathering a core following as this month we move to a larger home at Jimmy Tingle's Theater in Davis Square where Eliot Scheiner will come and tell us what's on his mind regarding production, surround, the state of the business etc. Next month look for us at the NEMO conference with a panel of three producers speaking, hopefully NOT all at once!

Aug. 01, 2005
Jonathan has been in the studio, knobs twirling, soundwaves swirling and using a time travel machine (analog audio!) has been mastering hours upon hours of never before released material from legends such as James Taylor, Steppenwolf, The Cream, Crosby Stills and Nash, Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, Bruce Springsteen, The Incredible String Band, The Nice, Chicago, Dizzy Gillespie...and that just for starters. The one that's really got our attention is the hour long show by Groucho Marx in 1972. Now that's entertainment!
